Something I forgot about being a part of everyday life in the South:
Seeing a cockroach and instinctively screaming "Die! Die! Die!" as you smack at it with a shoe.
Something I absolutely love and cherish about my Dad's apartment:
AT NIGHT, IT'S DARK AND QUIET.
Not an orangey-purple sky intermingled with neon white signs-- darkness.
Not sirens, back-up beeps, and traffic-- silence.
aaahhhh.
